An Organizing Solution for the Junk Drawer

We all hate the dreaded junk drawer, but most of us have them. Junk drawers are the family dumping ground for anything you don't know what to do with. They hold things like pet toys, rubber bands, and other miscellaneous items. The worst part you can never find what you are looking for!

Do you have a junk drawer that needs organizing?

Design team member, Nadine Carlier had one of those drawers and decided to do something about it. She used Deflecto's Carousel Rotating Organizer as the perfect solution for cleaning out her junk drawer. Since the carousel rotates, she moved it into the pantry and can move it around to find the bin she needs. As a bonus, she says "I can now use that drawer in my kitchen for kitchen things." The bins are clear making it easy to see what is in each one.

Each bin is a clear canister and has a snap-tight lid that can be easily removed to get what you need.

Organizing your Embellishments

Looking for a great way to organize your embellishments?

Design Team Member, Nadine Carlier used the Deflecto Rotating Carousel Organizer to organize her large collection of artificial flowers and leaves. This is visually appealing and really helpful in finding what you're looking for.

Nadine says the Deflecto Rotating Carousel was the answer to all her flower and leaf organization issues. She organizes her flowers by color and takes only the bins that she needs to her workspace instead of having all her flowers on her desk taking up much needed space to craft. The Rotating Carousel comes with 9 bins, three large bins, and 6 small-bins which are great for organizing items all around the house.

Rotating Carousel Organizer

Hello, Sue here today! Being a paper crafter at heart, I sometimes wonder…

What’s your favorite way to embellish?
For me it’s flowers, twine, buttons and pearls.

My Rotating Carousel Organizer is a great way to organize my “go to” embellishments.
And... it looks pretty too.

The Deflecto Rotating Carousel Organizer with Nine Canisters comes with three 6″ bins and six 3″ bins.

It is also available as a Rotating Carousel Organizer with Six 6″ Canisters.
It’s a great way to organize your supplies.

Carousel Storage For Every Season!

Deflecto has so many storage options for containing and storing a huge variety of supplies!  I have used my carousels for many different things.  This one I decorated for the space I am placing it in.  I love that I have so many options with all of the beautiful memory papers and embellishments that are available.  Read on and I will show you how I did it!

You will need:

Deflecto:  9-Bin Rotating Carousel Organizer, #3901CR
cardstock:  12" coordinating colors and prints, 6
wood:  1-1/4" ball knobs; 6; dowels or chopsticks to use as a handle for painting
acrylic paint:  six colors to match patterned papers
paintbrush
paper trimmer
pencil
scissors
adhesives
water bucket
paper towel

Directions:

1.  Cut a 5-1/2" x 12" rectangle using the paper trimmer.  Insert in one 6" tall bin.  Adjust so that the short edges come together in the V of the bin.  Repeat for the other 6" tall bins.

2.  Cut one 2-3/4" x 12" rectangle. Insert in one 3" tall bin as for the 6" tall bin.  Cut a contrasting paper and repeat for another bin.  Repeat for each bin, inserting your chosen patterned paper.

3.  Choose the paints to pair with the patterned papers.  Insert a wooden dowel in one ball knob. I use wooden disposable chopsticks.  Use as a handle and paint the wooden knob.  Place upright to dry.  Repeat for each knob.

4.  Decorate the lid:  Lay one lid top down on the wrong side of the cardstock.  Use the pencil to outline the shape.  Cut out inside the pencil lines and make it fit inside the lid edges. (About 1/4") Adhere to the lid.  Repeat for each of the lids as shown in the photo given below.

5.  Adhere the painted ball knobs to the tops of the bins as shown below.  I used a stronger glue for this step.  Tacky glue will work too.

Isn't this fun?  There are so many design options for decorating these bins.  I am using these for my small wood turnings and shapes.  Let your imagination be your guide!

Take the time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and

Live Life with a Flourish!

Organizing A Small Bathroom With Rotating Carousel

When you have a small bathroom, you need to utilize the most of every square inch of your space. By using the rotating carousel with 9 bins, I got our kids’ bathroom organized with plenty of space left for other bathroom necessities.

Materials
·      Deflecto Rotating Carousel with 9 bins
·      Colored Card Stock
·      Banner Die Cut and Die Cutter
·      Xyron 1.5” Sticker Maker
·      Fine Tip Marker

Tutorial
1.     Start by sorting all the hair ties by colors. For my daughter, she has them in every color. I used the small bins to store the different colored hair ties so she can find them to match her outfit for the day.
2.     Use the large bins to store Q-Tips, lotions, band aids, brushes, or any other item that takes up space on the counter.

3.     Each bin will get a label using the banner die cut. I used rainbow colors for the hair ties. Cut out each color of hair tie with the matching color card stock. For the large bins, use white or decorative paper.
4.     Run each banner die cut-out through the Xyron sticker maker.
5.     Adhere each banner to the coordinating bin.
6.     Write what is on each bin label banner.
7.     Set on counter or under sink and enjoy being organized!!

By using the rotating carousel either on the counter or under the sink, you are gaining much more space as the smaller bins stack and the larger bins hold a lot of supplies! Plus, it’s always fun to spin.

Organizing the Kids Craft Cabinet

I have this awkward wall cabinet between my kitchen and dining room.

It opens fully on the dining room side and only partially on the kitchen side.

Not completely functional, it doesn’t get used all that much.

It’s been the dumping spot for misc. household and kid crafts for the past two decades.

My very active grandsons always want to make something, do something.

I thought a more organized easily accessed spot would be a good idea.

After a little sorting and purging, it’s nice and neat.

Everything’s labeled.  It’s easy to find everything they’ll need.

Here are the products I used to organize my Kid’s Craft Cabinet:
  • Interlocking 5 Tilt Bin Organizer
  • Interlocking  Tilt Bin Organizers, Six Bin (20603CR)
  • Single Tilt Bins (421103CR)
  • Interlocking Marker Organizer
  • Rotating Carousel Organizer, Nine Canisters (3901CR)*

Time to Get Organized - My Favorite Tips

Are you crazy about organization like I am? I simply cannot create unless everything in my studio is in its proper place. Deflecto products are simply great at helping me keep everything in order and where it belongs. Here are my favorite products and tips for getting your craft space organized.

Craft Tilt Bins™ are one of the best ways to help keep order. You can fill a wall with them -and store more than you can imagine. Here I have organized paints, mediums, brushes, and inks all in one place. I have removed some of the actual bins to better store my smaller bottles of paint.

Everything in this bin went into the Craft Tilt Bins™ above. Everything is so much easier to see, get to, and work with now.

I also have a set of the Interlocking Stacking Tower Organizers on top of the bins. Remember their lids store safely on the bottom of each piece so they never get lost! I have assorted brushes, pens, and other odd size things in them that I use regularly.

Stackable Cube Organizers are great for storing things that are a little taller. Here I have my set of Tombow Dual Brush Markers (which are TALL) in one of the "X" bins. I also store washi tape and small Xyron machines in this set. These cubes easily attach on the sides so that they are stable on your shelf or table.

More Cube Organizers and Interlocking Stacking Tower pieces keep my stationary and smaller bits and pieces corralled and neat. Use a fancy punch and cardstock to add labels to the front of your drawers so you can see what is in each one.

The Rotating Organizer was a real life saver to clean up the clutter on my desk. I had multiple small buckets that took up a lot of room. By removing the tops from the bins I am able to store my most used supplies right on my desk in very little space. The very best thing - it SPINS! So I can easily reach whatever I want quickly.

I store my adhesives, pens, additional brushes, my camera all in one small spot. I toss odd and end embellishments in two of the bins. Those little bits that are left from a package of embellishments go in here so they are front and center; I am able to use them up without forgetting about them in a drawer.

Hands down my favorite piece are the Stackable Caddy Organizer. Y'all --- I LOVE these things. Seriously. Go get yourself some right now. I'll wait. ..... Are you back?  These caddies are AMAZING. Here you can see my Interlocking Marker Organizers in the top caddy. I love these because they have flexible grids inside that hold markers and pens in a variety of sizes.

Do you go away to crops? These are great for travel. You can fill them up,, stack them up, head off to crop, and be prepared to beat people off with a stick. I'm not kidding. We all know space is at a premium when at a crop, so you can store a huge amount of supplies in a little bitty footprint.

That's it! My very favorite storage tips for getting your craft space organized. I hope you give some of these a try. Be sure to post your photos on the Deflecto Facebook page - I would love to see them!

Time to Bake and Organize!

Hi Everyone!

Alexandra here again from Hedgehog Hollow with a great organization idea for you. I don't know about you but it's the time of year when I start baking again. It never seems on the summer agenda, it's too hot to have the oven on, the kids are off school and so who's going to eat it all?! However, this year I started pulling out all my boxes from the shipment that haven't been touched and say baking; well you can imagine the state of them! So I started searching for organization ideas. When my Deflecto box for the month arrived I knew they have the perfect solution! Roll in the Carousel Rotating Organizer!! It comes in a 6 or 9 bin options (links below); I have the 6 but have an order in for the 9. I am organizing by type and holiday. This carousel is full of my Wilton flower fondant cutters and my special German cookie cutters, plus Maddi's cookie stamp...

Deflecto provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
This is such a fab idea, here are a few more sides...

Plus the bottom piece rotates so it's easy to find what you are looking for and there's a set of guides that keep each slice in place, plus you can nest more canisters on top (Check out that motions blur too 😉)...

I labeled each canister with my P-Touch (linked above) and I intend to then switch out the canisters in my pantry for the appropriate season and have my endless supply of other cutters in my laundry cupboard where all my cake pans live. I also love how easy they are to clean if I get sticky fingers on them while baking! Win win!! Thanks so much for joining me today for a storage post.

Happy Baking!

Bead Organizer For Kids

I work with a lot of clients as a professional organizer. One thing that always is a struggle is organizing beads for necklaces, bracelets, and other art activities. The cases for the beads is never optimal for functional storage. Plus, when little fingers get a hold of those beads, it could easily be a disaster!

So I created a bead-making station for a client using the Carousel Rotating Organizer with 6 bins!

 Bead Organizer For Kids

Materials

Tutorial

Step 1:

Adhere decorative Washi tape around each of the 6 bins of the Carousel Rotating Organizer. I used black and white Washi tape, along with the glittery tape.

Step 2:

Write what type of bead will go in each of the 6 bins using the Sharpie Oil-Based pen. Don't worry about messing up because you can just use nail polish remover to write off the Sharpie!

Step 3:

Fill bins with different beads.

Step 4:

Teach the kids how to use the bead organizer!

I just love how pretty this organizer looks filled with beads and decorated with Washi tape and labeled! If you know anything about me, I love a good label! They help keep everything organized and easy to find.
