DIY Bag Tags

I thought it would be fun for my kids to have tags for their bags when we travel and also for school, so I made some bag tags, but I had to do them up mixed media style.

Here is a detailed video on how I made these fun tags for my kids.

I used the first name initial of each of the kids names for the large letter on the tag help identify which was which, and then picked their favorite color for the papers, ribbons, and embellishments.  I placed them all in the Deflecto plastic pouch with the pear clip to attach to the bag.

A Wedding "Tied the Knot" Banner!

We are looking forward to our daughter's wedding this Summer. I have the perfect embroidered letters for the banner sentiment! Follow along and I will show you how I made it!

You will need:

Sign/banner hangers:  1 for each rosette  (Deflecto #20003CR)
JOY Letters:  3" tall alphabet letters to spell:  TIED THE KNOT
cardstock:  fifteen 12" x 12" sheets of teal & black double-sided (core'dinations)
ribbon:  2-1/2" gold wire edged; 1-1/2" sheer vintage white (3 yards of each)
paper trimmer
paper scorer
die-cut machine
die for scalloped circle
punch or die-cut for 2" circle, 1" circle
glue gun
jute string
scissors

Instructions:

1.  Score one 12" piece of cardstock at 1/2" intervals.  Score across the entire sheet.

2.  With the score marks going up and down; cut out four 3" x 12" rectangles from the paper.

3.  Fold the score lines back and forth like for a fan.  Repeat for all 4 pieces.

4.  Match the ends and glue together with the same color facing up.

5.  For each rosette:  When all sides are glued together/ lay the rosette flat and push it together until there is about a 1" hole in the center.  It can be tricky trying to hold it all together, but you can do it!  Apply hot glue around the opening.  Adhere one 2" circle to cover the hole.  Repeat on the opposite side.  Make sure everything is centered properly.  Make enough rosettes for each letter of your sentiment.  This design took 11 rosettes.

6.  For this banner; the colored rosettes are staggered; one teal next to one black, then repeated.
Reverse the 4" scallop circles and adhere black to teal, then glue the teal to a black rosette.  Refer to the photo given for this step.

7.  Lay the rosettes flat, rotating the colors; one next to the other.  Remove the adhesive from the back of one 3" Joy letter and adhere it to the 4" scalloped circle on the first rosette.  Be sure to spell everything correctly!  Repeat for each letter.

8.  To hang the banner:  Lay one rosette with the letter facing up if you are reading it.  Flip the rosette over and adhere a 1" circle of cardstock where the hanger will go.  Make sure it is centered with the middle of the letter on the opposite side and will hang straight when you thread it onto the jute.  Apply the adhesive to the back of one hanger and adhere the hanger to the 1" circle as shown.  Make sure the hole in the hanger is in the right position....going the right direction.  Repeat for each rosette.

9.  Once step 8 is accomplished; measure the jute string for the length you will need and double.  Thread two strands of the 3-ply jute string through the eye of each hanger.  **Designer note:  If you do not have the hangers.....space your rosettes evenly; right side facing up and glue the string between the rosette and another cardstock circle on the back.  It will be important to make sure everything is hanging at the appropriate angle for all of the letters to be straight.

10.  Tie a loop in each end of the jute so you can hang the banner.

11.  To finish:  Cut the ribbons in 8" lengths.  Tie 4 ribbons between each word and at each end of the banner.  Now it is ready to decorate your party!

**Designer note:  You can reduce the size of your rosettes by cutting them in 2" strips instead of 3" strips.  You can also use 3 strips of the scored cardstock for each rosette.  This will make the rosette a little lighter in weight.

GIRLS GUIDE TO CAMPING

GIRLS GUIDE TO CAMPING

BY LYNN LILLY From Craft box girls
A year ago in April I went camping for my very first time. This camping trip was spurred on by a client who wanted Craft Box Girls to appear at their Bonnaroo activation as DIY Experts. Rosanna and I set out on a journey to make our first camping trip a great experience and take notes along the way to share it with other first time campers. Since this first camping trip, I have been camping two times and might call myself a pro (maybe-eeee). I have compiled a list of helpful tips, key products and useful information to make your first time camping trip a great experience in true girl fashion.

Start Organized & Stay Organized

Start organized and stay organized. Deflecto's Stackable Caddy Organizer is my go to for camping organization. From packing camping tools and key supplies to toys and craft supplies to keep the kids occupied on the campsite, the Stackable Caddy Organizer is the perfect solution to stay organized.

The organizers also have a nifty lift and lock feature that provides for easy stacking and traveling!

When it comes time to showering, it is important to find out ahead of time if the campsite has showers. If so you want to be prepared with a waterproof shower caddy (the one pictured is from the Dollar Store), shower shoes and all your shower supplies. I always carry my soap in a washcloth turned soap pocket and my shampoo, body wash and lotion in Deflecto's Interlocking Storage Tower. The Storage Tower provides compact storage that is waterproof and easily fits travel size bottles.

Mermaid Baby Frame

Hi, everyone! Anita here and I am ashamed to admit that I have turned into that grandmother that everyone runs from. Yep - I always have a photo of my beautiful granddaughter in hand, and I am ready to show it to you at a moments notice. Since I have so many, I always need a new way to show them off and the clear, beveled edge frames do the job wonderfully.

Mermaid Baby Clear Frame

Today, I using the 5X7 Beveled Edge Frame - it holds a 5X7 photo (or mat) with plenty of room to spare. The frame is two pieces, so your photo floats in the middle. This makes it really easy to switch your photos out frequently.

For this project, I used paper and die cut stickers from the new Julie Nutting line. I also used an older Martha Stewart punch across the bottom of the polka dot paper strip to add to the cuteness.

Embellished clear photo frame.

I then used a wood token from Maya Road, die cut stickers to match the paper line, and some paper flowers to embellish the front of the frame.

This chipboard is from my stash (seriously it is one of the very first sets I bought a long time ago). I painted the pieces using DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics. I have found that a low temp glue gun is the best way to adhere pieces to the outside of the frames - it grabs instantly and holds well.

Beach Themed Mini-Album

Who says you have to do a full 12x12 album for your beach vacation? A mini-album shares your favorite photos and is a fast way to get those pictures off your phone and ready to share. And the fastest way that I know to make a mini-album is by using Deflecto 3"x5" flexible pouchesDeflecto pear clips, and mini-collections from Keller's Creations!

This 10 page beach-themed mini-album was made in about 30 minutes, and it uses the "Alisha's Beach House" mini-collection. That's two full sheets of 12x12 paper, one sheet of 6x12 paper, an alphabet sheet, and four embellishment sheets, and I had lots left over! These mini-collections are fantastic because the 12x12 double-sided printed paper is divided into 6x6 quadrants. This gives you a ton of options on how to cut and combine the papers. All I added was white scrap paper, a couple of brads, blue ink, and some ribbon -- all supplies I already had in my stash.

The album is the perfect size for Instagram photos or photos using those adorable little Instax cameras. Plus, you can easily throw it in a purse so you can share it with all of your jealous co-workers when you return from your beach getaway!

Frame-up A Family Vacation Memory!

Almost 15 years ago our family took a vacation in a rented RV to a family reunion. I came across a misplaced photo when going through boxes of photographs from back before the dawn of digital! It was a perfect shot of our family in the moment so I decided to put it in one of my special frames.

The frame I chose is a 5 x 7" beveled edge frame that has screws on each corner.  You can float your photo between the front and back panels of the frame.  The following is a list of the materials I used.

Materials:

Deflecto:  5 x 7" beveled edge frame #799593CR
12" cardstock:  collaged with sayings; cream colored
self adhesive alphabet letters:  1" gold sparkle
sticker:  3-D birdcage with bluebird
die-cut:  blue flowers (about 3")
adhesive tape runner
tacky glue

Tools:

paper trimmer
scissors

Instructions:

1.  Cut the selected cardstock to 5 x 7".  Adhere to the cream colored cardstock and cut out leaving a 1/8" border.

2.  Cut and place the photograph on the scrapbook paper; adhere.

3. Remove the screws from the frame and set aside.  Place the scrapbooked page on the back panel of the frame.  Layer the front panel over the back panel and replace the screws.

4.  Embellish the frame with the stickers and die cut. I used the tacky glue to adhere the blue flower to the hardware on the corner of the frame.

I hope you got some inspiration here today.  I love deflecto frames as they are a great surface to embellish on the outside after the signage or photo is placed between the panels.

Make sure to take the time to enjoy the small blessings along the way and
Live Life with a Flourish!

Store and Display with Deflecto

I love making tags. They are great ways to try out new techniques. I will often refer to my tags when I am looking for inspiration.

An excellent way to store and display tags is to clasp them together using the Deflecto Pear Clips. I can easily sort through my finished tags and refer back to them when creating.

They also work great to attach to the Deflecto Flexible Pouches. These flexible pouches, along with the magnetic craft sheet work great for storing my stencils.

Gone Fishing Frame

One of our favorite things to do for a family vacation is to go camping. What better way to capture those memories than with pictures.

I decided to have a little fun with this picture and add a fish hook and two fishes cut out from some scrapbook paper.

The 5" x 7" Beveled Edge Frame works great with these little additions. It is so easy to take apart and add fun designer paper to match the occasion.

To finish off the frame, I added some black plastic letters that spelled out "Gone Fishing."
