St. Patricks Day Center Piece using the Open Deflecto Stackable Organizer

Hi everyone, it's Josefine, and I'm really excited about today's post. If you've seen any of my earlier posts, you know that I love mixed media projects. This time I went in a slightly different direction. I used the Deflecto Stackable Cube Organizer as a vase.

Green is one of my favorite colors, so St. Patricks Day is the perfect holiday for me :) I found some great fake flowers in my craft store and decided to use it as a centerpiece for my dining table. I wanted the flowers and the big clover to stay in place inside the cube, so I decided to go with foam cubes. I cut those in shape, rather loosely, but tight enough that nothing was wiggling around.

Before pressing the foam into the cube, I wrapped it with green, glittery ribbon.

Now I cut the fake flowers down and pressed them into the foam till the entire area was covered.

At the end I sprinkled a few gold coins all over the flowers and around the vase/ Stackable Cube.

Valentine's Day Craft Frame Insert

Hi everyone, it's Josefine, and I'm super happy to be guest designing for Deflecto again. February's topic is Valentine's Day, and I created a very pink insert for the Craft Frame in pink.

I started by preparing my mixed media paper with white Gesso. I was messy on purpose to create the first layer of texture. My idea was to have color spreading away from a heart shape in the middle of the paper. So I outlined the heart shape that I cut out later. I added more texture using different types of tape. Then I added a few color sprays and acrylic paints and spread them in all directions.

When I was done, I let it dry overnight. The next day I cut out the heart and aligned some negatives behind the heart. I found those in an Antique shop. They are all images from Rome, one of my favorite cities. I also added a little more dimension to the image by water coloring with a black Faber Castell Gelato around the border of the heart.

After I was done, I put the insert into the pink Craft Frame. Because the negatives are perfect to add some light to it, I put a candle behind the frame. You could also use a string light or one of these flickering LED lights. You can also see my process in this video:

3-Tier Dessert Stand Customized for Halloween

Hi everyone, it's Josefine, and I'm so glad to be back with another guest design team post. Today, I want to share my Halloween project with you, and it's going to be yummy!

I'm using the 3-Tier Dessert Stand as the base and the Mini Sign Holders in two different sizes (2x3 and 3x4) for parts of the decoration. I started with decorating the 3 levels of the 3-Tier Dessert Stand using Mod Podge and tissue paper. Thankfully I had the right Halloween colors laying around.

I simply spread out the Mod Podge on the base using a simple brush and then added the tissue paper on top. I wanted the paper to be rather messy with a lot of wrinkles, so I moved it around a bit till I had the effect that I wanted. Then I added another layer of Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper and let it dry.

Next up, I prepared the inlays for the Mini Sign Holders. To ensure that the paper has the correct size, I drew the squares onto regular white cardstock and cut it with my paper guillotine.

At the end, I decorated 4 of each size using washi tape, cute Halloween stamps, stencils all put together with a bunch of fun. I really enjoyed the process of creating all these little scenes :)

This is really a fun and simple project that you can do with your kids or friends during movie and wine night ;) Here are all the little scenes that I created. Btw, did you know how difficult it is to get Halloween cupcakes one month before Halloween? All my grocery store had was Christmas themed cupcakes. I couldn't believe it :D

How to create a starry night light using the Deflecto Craft Frame

Hi everyone, my name is Josefine, and I'm guest designing for Deflecto Crafts in the months of September and October. You have no idea how excited I am ;) For my first project, I created a starry night light which looks great on a kids' night stand or as decoration anywhere.

The Deflecto Craft Frame with the black border is the perfect surface to create a stained glass effect! Before I could add the paint, I had to draw the stars. Thankfully, I had a stencil that was full of stars in different sizes. This really made things easy. The paint I was using needs a border in order to not move everywhere, so I used a dimensional paste to outline the stars. This paste had to dry for about 24 hours.

Now I was able to pour the paint directly onto the Craft Frame, yellow and orange for the stars and blue for the background. I also added some effects using glitter and other, more opaque paint. It is so much fun to watch the paint move and mix with each other. It's a little unpredictable, which I really like.

Patience is the key! This paint has to dry for about 48 hours. But the result was so stunning that it was worth waiting. As soon as everything was dry (the frame had to lay perfectly flat during the drying time), I created the light box for the back side. In order for the lights to be at the right place behind the stars and not randomly anywhere, I used the same stencil to estimate where the single LED bulbs have to be. The light box is just a medium sized USPS flat rate box, cut in half and covered in black card stock. I poked a couple of holes into the back and squeezed the tiny LED bulbs into them.

I needed, even more, patience while waiting till it got dark. I really wanted to see how it turned out. What do you think? Is this a unique night light or what? :D
